This is how we create image material <\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

P<\/span>roject<\/span> ONi<\/span>T<\/span> explores travelogues printed between 1501 and 1850. The most important prerequisite for our computer-aided analysis is computer-readab<\/span>le material: digital copies. <\/span>T<\/span>he<\/span>se are<\/span> mostly<\/span> provided by the <\/span>Austrian<\/span> National Library (\u00d6NB), <\/span>partially<\/span> through the data created in<\/span> the <\/span><\/span>AB<\/span>O <\/span>project<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span> Our project team is, however,<\/span> constantly enriching our set of pictures<\/span>,<\/span> as <\/span>in the course of<\/span> the ABO project, <\/span>foldouts<\/span> or<\/span> books of<\/span> large formats <\/span>have not been scanned yet. We <\/span>digitize<\/span> this material<\/span> based on <\/span><\/span>ISO <\/span>19264<\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/a> which guarantees the best approach possible <\/span>in order <\/span>to<\/span> digitally <\/span>represent<\/span> the physical object<\/span>s<\/span>.<\/span> To give you a better idea of how we do this exactly, we want to provide you with a few pictures of our scan<\/span>ning <\/span>devices and tools<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Our <\/span>overhead<\/span> book <\/span>scanner in its recently renovated<\/span> room<\/span>, customized to the specific requirements of books and scans alike,<\/span> produces<\/span> files<\/span> in<\/span> uncompressed<\/span> TIFF<\/span> format and<\/span> in<\/span> a resolution of<\/span> 600<\/span> ppi<\/span> in just a few seconds<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

If<\/span> formats<\/span> are<\/span> larger <\/span>than<\/span> DIN A1, <\/span>we<\/span> ha<\/span>ve<\/span> to<\/span> improvise<\/span> with<\/span> additional<\/span> supplies<\/span> or<\/span>, <\/span>if<\/span> there<\/span> is<\/span> no<\/span> other<\/span> way<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> stitch<\/span> two<\/span> seperate<\/span> scans<\/span> together<\/span> through<\/span> a<\/span>n <\/span>image<\/span> editor<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Alternatively<\/span>,<\/span> we use<\/span> a<\/span> so-called Munich b<\/span>ook<\/span> finger out of glass<\/span> to flatten the page.<\/span> The<\/span> color<\/span> bar <\/span>underneath<\/span> facilitate<\/span>s<\/span> the<\/span> accurat<\/span>e<\/span> representation of <\/span>colors<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>
